Recently Mary-Kate Olsen graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar.
This issue was released a few months ago, but I figured it’s never too late to go over and share with you some very insightful Olsen quotes. In this HB interview MK discusses everything from her penchant for lower-class hairdos to her status as a fashion icon. It’s riveting.
I will begin my quote assessment with Mary Kate’s response to being asked how she spends her free time:
“I run around my house naked with heels all the time. It’s so funny. All my friends will tell you I love running around in kimonos and jewelry or naked with jewelry.”
Mmmm, yes. That is hilarious, M. But seriously, just once in my lifetime would I like to walk into a room only to find Mary-Kate Olsen donning nothing but some clunky jewelery and her birthday suit. Or, you know, I’d be equally content witnessing MK prancing around in a kimono. Okay, if we’re talking real honesty here…I’d be happy to simply see M Olsen in person, period. There, I said it. All I’m saying is I’ve already seen Ashley standing in line at Coldstone Creamery and it would be nice to make my Olsen sighting complete. I just want closure.
Alright, quote dos is an explanation for the former one half of Michelle Tanner’s recent hair transformation from brunette to blonde:
“I woke up one morning and was like, I want white-trash hair today. “
Umm, cool? Although I guess it’s good she doesn’t discriminate against classes.
Quote tres reflects MK’s thoughts on her spreading style:
“Sometimes I’ll look at people or at a magazine and I’ll do a double take because I’m like, “Oh, my God, that’s my outfit, but that’s not me.”
I know exactly how you feel, MK. Whenever I see someone wearing an ill-fitting sweater that they bought from Anthropologie just because it was on sale I too think to myself, “Oh, my God, that’s my outfit, but that’s not me.”
When asked about how she deals with the tabloids’ portrayal of both she and her sister, Ash, MK explains:
“They take photos of us going into our offices, and it’s ‘Mary-Kate and Ashley shopping again.’ But I’m going to work for eight hours, and we’re working so hard…It just shows how people want to think of you.”
I’m not sure I completely agree with this statement. I’m fairly confident that this photo shows me how I want to think of you, Mary-Kate, not the words accompanying it:
But let me assure you, I do not question your work ethic, as it takes some serious time and dedication to pulling off a look like that. And more importantly, this tabloid candid makes me think you’re awesome. So do not fret.
Lastly, Mary Kate provides the reader with a final deep thought:
“I feel like I’ve lived 10 different lives already and I’m only 21…But I also feel like I’m entering a new chapter.”
I know. I’ll give you a minute to let that quote resonate. Then I’ll give you another minute to realize you’ve probably stated those very words when you moved onto a new job, or purchased a really flattering outfit. So, looks like we’ve all got a little Mary-Kate in us after all.
