This has been reported much more frequently than when I started writing this…so let’s at least recap.
Bush had a delightful day yesterday. He decided that, after pretty much forgetting about Israel for seven years he should pay them a second visit. Maybe wish them a happy birthday. And reminisce over the days of the Nazis….
Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,…We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: “Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.” We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.
This couldn’t be any reference to the national conversation and debates in our own country. Not a reference to Democrats, let alone Barack Obama. Not a reference to the repeated “attacks” on Obama for his willingness to speak to Iran or Hamas. I mean, McCain heard the speech, agreed with the president, and then assumed it meant Barack should defend his position to speak with Iran, it’s all a coincidence! Mostly it’s just Obama’s vanity. As Dana Perina say, “I understand when you’re running for office you sometimes think the world revolves around you,”.
This would all be good except it had already reported that:
“…White House aides privately acknowledged the remarks were aimed at the presidential candidate and others in his party.” – CNN
After the speech was given though, something miraculous and unprecedented happened. There was this moment where the planets aligned and the Democrats united against Bush and behind Obama. It was like watching a baby calf fall…stumble around…cry a bit…but then finally stand up. I urge you to read them, because it’s not every day you can hear Biden say that something that president did was “bullshit” and a “malarkey”. Quotes and Quotes.
In the end, Bush is in charge of a failed foreign policy. He should have had this “I Have Valid Foreign Policy Opinions” card revoked years ago. By avoiding diplomacy, we have not made progress with Iran and North Korea. Turns out, the silent game doesn’t hurt their feelings. They just keep on with whatever they want. And, hypocritically, it turns out Bush and McCain realize that to actually work on your foreign policy goals, you do need to have some sort of communication with the other party. Which is why Bush has had limited talks with both North Korea and Iran, and why his secretary of defense said they should find a way to sit and talk with Iran. And why McCain said he would be willing to talk with Hamas (while not running under Bush). Yet the definition this group of people are using for “appeasement” only applies to Democrats and does not actually take into account the meaning of “appeasement”, which turns out does not mean “talk to” nor “meeting with”. Look for yourself, I promise, APPEASEMENT.
Besides, if you look back at history, not sitting down with Hitler is not the moral of the story. Which makes it better that not only was this speech a time for politicization, it was misdirected, and wrapped in a bow for Israel. Happy Birthday!
Oh well. At least he didn’t make a comment about shooting Obama.

Seriously, I want to hire Joe Biden to be my personal shit-talker. Because he talks shit better than anyone in the world.
