It’s almost here. The presidenteyest day of the year.
Whitehouse.gov/kids/presidentsday has these thoughts to offer us:
America’s presidents have represented many states, held different occupations and faced difficult challenges. However, each president answered the same call–the call to serve the American people. As you learn about the presidents, think about ways you can serve your neighbor, community or country today.
In other words, our current president may be answering his call of the wild, but no better than you could. So, step up to the plate. Because this guy couldn’t get it done.

I iz swinggin wit ur childers
Then, celebrities tell us what volunteer service means to them!
Excerpts from Sean Astin’s blurb:
”It makes you feel really good… I promise you….and I’ll give you a little trick. If you look at ‘em right in the eye, after you help ‘em….it’ll make you feel good. I promise.”
He sounds crazy. And he keeps talking about how it feels good. He promises. Posting this on the White House page seems basically like the government being like, go ahead, trust the guy who keeps telling you to trust him. He can make you feel good. Ew.
I didn’t know who any of the other ‘celebs’ were…. they were exciting, though, like the CEO of AARP and the first lady of Ohio. No wonder Sean Astin was listed first.
This page also offers us info from some presidential biographies put together by 5th graders.
Did you know…
George Washington’s favorite foods were ice cream and pizza? I mean fish? And he had a pet horse named Nelson. Knowing all the hard work that went into making ice cream back in the day, I think we can take this to mean that Washington didn’t shy away from hard work… or from forcing others (slaves) to do hard work. That’s good.

Abraham Lincoln… was a dreamboat. I think we all know that.
Birthday: Febuary 12, 1809
How old would he be this year? 194
School(s) attended: Did not attend college, but read at home.
Wife: Mary Lincoln (lucky girl!)
Occupation(s) before he was President: Store clerk, rail-splitter, lawyer
Other way(s) he served: Congressman
Height: 6 feet 4 inches, tallest president
Favorite Foods: Fruit salad, cheese, crackers
Hobbies or Sports: Walking, wrestling
Pets: Horse

Would a presidential hopeful now be allowed to list wrestling among their favorite hobbies? Certainly not fruit salad and cheese and crackers… unless they’re only going for the ‘white wine democrats.’
But George W.(ashington) is still some people’s favorite:

Also, have you ever heard Dave Chapelle’s stand-up bit about if he and a white guy went back in time and met George Washington?
